Episode 15: Success and sacrifice with Ollie Wynne Griffith

This week Emma is joined by Olympic silver medallist, Ollie Wynne-Griffith. Rowing for GB, Ollie won silver this summer in the Paris 2024 men’s pairs race, gold in the 2024 European Championships, and has a host of other rowing accolades including bronze in the men’s eight at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. But Ollie isn’t just an achiever on the water, he also has a degree from Yale, and an MBA from Cambridge, and yes he rowed in the formidable Boat Race. Candid and humble, Ollie reflects on his career so far, he shares how rowing makes him feel, and the unbeatable feeling of cutting through the water.  He also talks about the not so pretty side of the sport, his pre-competition ritual (spoiler - it’s gross), the sacrifices, the hours training and the rigid life structure. Post-Olympics, Ollie is currently at a crossroads deciding his next move, whether it’s in the boat or not. It’s an intriguing window into the mind of an elite athlete after a competition.
