Episode 20: Marathons and music with Charles Costa

This week Emma is joined by ultra runner and musician Charles Costa. Charles recently ran 90 marathons in 90 days along the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, raising money for two suicide prevention charities St James place and the Jed foundation. An extraordinary feat, Charles ran 2,650 miles from Canada to Mexico and climbed 13 times the height of Mount Everest in three months. He shares the highs and lows of the challenge, and why he took it on, talking frankly about the impact of running on his mental health following a skiing accident ten years ago. You might recognise Charles from when he was known as the musician King Charles, he recently rebranded his own name, Charles Costa. To commemorate completing the marathon challenge, Charles released his first single titled “Nothing at the Most” off his new self-titled album. He reflects on this new chapter in his musical career, his muses, past and present, and the profound connection between music and running. Charles’ passion, whether expressed through lyrics or stomping along the trails, is unwavering. He’s raw, brimming with purpose and relentlessly passionate. Time to dig out your harmonica.
